Chartered in 1889 on land once settled by the Waxhaw Indians, Waxhaw is a quaint town in Union County about 26 miles south of Charlotte. The historic downtown area feature a wooden pedestrian bridge that once ferried cars across while train traffic passed below. The town's planners intended the train tracks to run through the town to show its importance to the textile industry and provide a connection to Charlotte and Atlanta.
President Andrew Jackson may have been born here (although folks in neighboring South Carolina will say that he was born on that side of the state line).
Today, not much as changed in downtown Waxhaw except only people cross the wooden train bridge. A strong school district, lower taxes, and affordable housing all lead to the growth of Waxhaw. Whether your plan is a small home in a subdivision, or a horse farm, or even a gated estate, there's something for just about everyone in Waxhaw.
Convenience shopping is available just north of downtown Waxhaw along highway 16 and the shops at Blakeney are not too far away. Nature lovers will appreciate nearby 1000 acre Cane Creek Park, with a 350 acre lake, as well as cyclists enjoy exploring the many two-land roads throughout Waxhaw.
